Breweries & Dive Bars & Bar Hopping in Midtown Atlanta

Recently, quite a few guests have inquired about barhopping + Atlanta's growing craft brewery scene... it's pretty great-- we have a ton, including a cider brewery. Then of course there are an ever growing number of restaurants and bars in Atlanta. When some awesome guests from Texas came for July 4th weekend, I inquired with a beer loving friend about the best places to go for breweries. Then when a few lovely ladies from down under (Australia) visited a few weeks a go... they arrived at 4pm and wanted to get right to the drinking! lol. So, I created the nearby bar hopping and drunken fun list for them. :-)

Breweries:

Torch Hop Brewery - easily our best new brewery, people love the decor, food, and of course the beers. ADDRESS: 249 Ponce De Leon Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30308

Sweet Water Brewery - one of the first and a staple brewery in the city. They hosts many events including yoga on tap :-) ADDRESS: 195 Ottley Dr NE, Atlanta, GA 30324

Urban Tree Cidery - a wonderful alternative to those who aren't necessarily beer drinkers.
ADDRESS: 1465 Howell Mill Rd NW, Atlanta, GA 30318

Classic "Drunken" Fun Type Places:

- Clermont Lounge - classic Atlanta, a fun bar featuring an older stripper who can crush cans with her boobs. There's nothing quite like it.
Address: 789 Ponce De Leon Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30306

- Johnny’s Hideaway - in Buckhead and just be prepared to dance, laugh, and have fun. This place is full of comical characters... it's dubbed at "Cougarville" by some and "Sugardaddy's" by others. Nevertheless you will see folks in their 60s+ getting down on the dance floor all night long and not caring... its kinda wonderful, lol.
Address: 3771 Roswell Rd NE Atlanta, GA 30342

- Northside Tavern - one of my favorite spots for Monday nights. There's live music, pool tables, and an array of people who have stories to tell.
Address: 1058 Howell Mill Rd NW, Atlanta, GA 30318

Bar Hopping in Midtown:

Walkable Bar Hopping: 3 OPTIONS

 1. Classy / Fancy / High End Bar Hopping:  start the night off with a meal at 5 Church or Establishment (both at Colony Square). Then go next door to W Hotel Midtown (across the street). Then head to STK (a block over at the corner of 12th and Peachtree), then Loews (11th and Peachtree), and nightcap with a coffee or espresso at Cafe Intermezzo.

2. Regular Bar Hopping: Many options, but to stay close by start at Ri Ra Irish Pub, then Tin Lizzys, then Flip Flops, then Cosmo Lava Lounge for some dancing. Night cap at Cafe Intermezzo.

3. Gay Bar Hopping: Head to the intersection of 10th & Piedmont and let loose. Start at 10 Atlanta it's usually a patio full of people, then 10th & Piedmont, then G's, then end the night at Blake's. There's usually a drag queen show at one of the bars... I'm not sure which night though.

*these bars/restaurants vary in vibes depending on the night, especially the regular bar hopping. The classy option and gay option are more consistent

PLEASE READ:

*Drink responsibly and please never get too drunk. Know your limit and don't feel peer pressured to drink more than you know you can handle. Don't drink drinks that you know will give you a hangover. When in doubt on what to drink? Have one glass of wine. When in doubt and everyone's drinking beer? Have a cider and be merry! :-).

*Please eat a meal before or during drinking to ensure you don't get too drunk or have a hangover.

*Do not over do it and drink too much with strangers (stranger danger is real)

*Make sure your phone is fully or almost fully charged before going out drinking

*Have the Uber and Lyft app downloaded in case you need to quickly escape a situation

*Don't take too many shots

*Embrace the idea of "babying" a drink all night. Meaning getting one and sipping from it very slowly

*Drink water between drinking alcohol

Best Mexican Food in Atlanta

A guest from Oklahoma came down to Atlanta to take some stunt classes (I know, awesome right!). She wanted to go out with friends to get mexican food nearby and asked for suggestions. Here's what I said...

BarTaco in Inman Park is cool and good, its a trendy place with tasty food. Perfect place to hang with friends. The pork taco is life.  (There is also a BarTaco in West Midtown and Buckhead, but the vibes at the Inman Park location are best)
299 North Highland Avenue Northeast Atlanta, GA 30307 - 16 minute drive

La Hacienda in Midtown off Monroe is a nice traditional one. Great flavor and nice rooftop type deck in the Spring and Summers.
900 Monroe Dr NE, Atlanta, GA 30308 - 16 minute walk, 7 minute drive

RReal Tacos is a new place everyone loves. I haven't gone yet, but they have high reviews on yelp.
100 6th St NE #110, Atlanta, GA 30308 - 16 minute walk, 5 minute drive

Tin Lizzy's in Midtown of Crescent has great chips and nachos, plus it's extremely close by and open late.
1136 Crescent Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30309 - 4 minute walk, 3 minute drive

** If you're looking for casual inexpensive nearby mexican food, yanno Chipotle style, then walk one block over over to Willy's Mexicana Grill. They just redid the patio and it's much more spacious and nice. Superchill environment, you can grab a bite then go walk through the park.

1071 Piedmont Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30309 - 5 minute walk, 4 minute drive
